A doctor at the University of Connecticut is utilizing 3D printing technology to make life saving medical makes, similar to N-95 masks, for hospitals that are in short supply of necessary PPE due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “I always wanted to have involvement with 3D printing and medical device design,” says Dr. Chris Wiles, a first year anesthesiology resident at UConn. Wiles program is currently running almost 24/7 on printers at Hartford Hospital, and hopefully soon at Saint Francis Hospital. He has also created a how-to video on Youtube that teaches others how to make masks for their hospitals using 3D printers.
