Engineering Minute – Vibrating Device Diagnoses Dizziness

Researchers at Chalmers University of Technology, in Sweden, have developed a vibrating testing device for patients experience dizziness and balance issues. The device sits behind the ear of the patient and uses sound waves to stimulate the vestibular reflex and determine the cause of dizziness. Unlike previous testing methods, which had the potential to cause hearing damage due to the high decibel levels needed for the test, the vibrating testing device uses bond conduction technology which requires a much lower decibel testing level.
