Engineering Minute – The $100 DIY ultrasound

Engineers at Canada's University of British Columbia are working on an ultrasound transducer that could dramatically lower ultrasound scanner costs. The device, which could cost as low as $100, is portable, wearable, smart, and no bigger than a Band-Aid. It is comprised of small vibrating polymer resin drums instead of conventional piezoelectric crystals, which end up costing significantly less to produce.
