Aaron Fleming is Synectic’s new Business Development Manager for Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey. Join us as we sit down with Aaron to learn a little about him and what brought him to Synectic.
First, thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to tell us about yourself. Let’s start with your background. What engineering experience do you have, and why did you choose to go into sales?
My career began in engineering. After earning degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering from Penn State, I started as a Design Engineer at an Oil & Gas services company, where I developed custom tooling for subsea robots. I later transitioned to B. Braun Medical, managing R&D projects as an engineer. Working closely with OEM customers, I discovered how much I enjoyed applying my engineering problem-solving skills to address their unique challenges. This realization led me into technical sales at a scientific instruments manufacturer specializing in cryogenic systems.
How is your day spent as a Business Development Manager?
In my current role, I help customers turn their product concepts into reality, working alongside Synectic’s outstanding engineering team. I develop relationships with our customers, share useful insights, gather project requirements, and ensure satisfaction throughout the process. Based in Allentown, PA, I’m well-positioned to serve clients in New York, New Jersey, Maryland, and Ohio.
Of all the product development companies, why did you choose to work at Synectic?
I was drawn to Synectic because of its broad expertise in medical device development and its involvement in a range of other industries. I knew my diverse background would be a strong complement to the team. I also enjoy working at smaller companies, where there’s often a deeper focus on customer relationships. After meeting the talented engineers at Synectic, I was excited to join the team.
What quality or ability do you bring to Synectic that can help our clients?
At my core, I believe the most meaningful impact I can make is helping others solve their engineering challenges. My role at Synectic centers on connecting customers with tailored solutions through our exceptional engineering team. This mission drives me daily. My broad engineering background, especially in medical devices, gives me a technical foundation to understand our customers’ needs and ensure we deliver comprehensive solutions.
What do you do when not working to connect with our clients?
Outside of work, I enjoy staying active—hiking, skiing, snowboarding, and playing golf. I also love to travel and have visited 45 U.S. states and 26 countries. As a result, I’ve become an adventurous eater (raw firefly squid and sea grapes, anyone?).
Before we end the interview, we’re dying to know, what’s your favorite type of pizza?
As for pizza? My favorite kind is the one in my hand. That said, I’m partial to wood- or coal-fired styles, topped with Neapolitan ingredients, Philly cheesesteak, or buffalo chicken.
