At a time when a lot of business are tightening resources and consolidating, Synectic is always pushing the envelope and expanding. Over the summer we tapped into the Mid Atlantic sales market and brought on board our latest addition to our sales team, Sam Engle. Sam comes to us from Pennsylvania and is filling the role of Mid Atlantic Sales rep, covering territory in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and Northern Virginia. Sam has been with us for the summer and I recently had an opportunity to sit down with him and discuss his background and how he came to Synectic.
Sam, thank you so much for speaking with me and allowing our customers to get to know you better. First, let’s talk a little bit about your background and what got you into sales, specifically in the medical device industry.
SE: I came from a family of doctors and although I was not interested in following in the family business, the medical industry did interest me. I received my B.A. in marketing with a minor in healthcare, with the goal of entering the pharmaceutical sales industry. However, after graduating, I had the opportunity to work as a Senior Product Manager at a privately held medical device company specializing in the vascular access market. This was the job that really got me interested in medical devices and gave me the knowledge and experience I have with vascular access. I have also worked in international sales and as a consultant. Each of these opportunities expanded my knowledge and gave me more tools with which to help my customer base.
With your varied background, you could have worked anywhere. What made you choose to join the Synectic team?
SE: People, culture, and customer diversity were the goals I was seeking when searching for a new opportunity. Everything about Synectic spoke to these goals after the first meeting. I knew this team was where I wanted to be aligned. The depth of knowledge and experience that the Synectic Engineering team has in-house is amazing. Ask me a topic and I can provide you with an example of how the Synectic team has understood and helped that market segment. The projects and tasks that these talented people accomplish everyday speak to their determination. Regarding customer diversity, well… every day is interesting and fun. I like that excitement of the job.
This place really can be exciting and every day brings new challenges and accomplishments. Sam, what has been your favorite part of working here so far?
SE: One of the main reasons I wanted to get into sales was my desire to help people figure out solutions to their problems. With my background in the medical device product market, I’ve had the privilege to create, develop, manage, and release new products. I feel this experience has driven my passion to help others succeed. My experience within the market and the dedication I have in helping our customers feel fully satisfied compliment the team’s engineering knowledge and expertise. My favorite part of my job is meeting customers and working with them on a solution that fits their needs.
I bet your new customers look forward to working with you as well. When you are not hard at work what do you like to do in your spare time?
SE: When not involved with my children’s activities, I enjoy being outside. I’m a huge fan of campfires and s’mores.
