Engineering Minute – 3D printed corneas

Researchers at Newcastle University in the UK have successfully 3D printed human corneas as a way to overcome the current shortage of cornea transplants available. The corneas were created by mixing healthy cornea stem cells with alginate and collagen which produced a printable "bio-ink". The bio-ink was than used in a low-cost 3d bio-printer to produce the printed corneas in less than 10 minutes. Learn more about the 3D printed corneas at Newcastle University.
